Where the main funding streams go.
  • Most UK students can apply for a tuition fee loan (paid to the university) and a maintenance loan (for living costs). Amounts depend on where you live and study.
  • Loans are repaid after you earn above a threshold, as a percentage of income.
  • Medical students in later years may be eligible for NHS bursary support in some nations. Check the rules for yours.
  • Universities also offer bursaries and hardship funds.

Applying well

  • Apply before the deadline for your nation. Late applications can delay payments.
  • Keep proof of identity and income handy.
  • Update the agency if your circumstances change.

Your checklist

  • Applied for student finance on time
  • Checked NHS bursary rules
